OSN in a nutshell:
- An Open Platform to incorporate network features additively.
- Application friendly library frameworks.
- A standalone system to manage network nodes.

Open Services Networking (OSN)
A Linux-based Open Services Networking Module is integrated within 3Com routers and switches to provide a service delivery platform from which a variety of software-based services can be run.
Open Services Networking (OSN) is an initiative from 3Com that allows tight integration into the infrastructure of a wide range of network applications to enable a diverse set of services. The OSN initiative is predicated on three enabling elements:
- OSN-enabled network infrastructure products (routers and switches)
- OSN applications delivered via strategic technology partnerships
- 3Com® Open Network™ (3Com|ON™) Program
How MARS Contributed:
- MARS created the libraries in different languages to suite varied application developers.
- Customized CentOS for a license free environment
- Created Sample SDK's and User friendly intelligent interface to manage network nodes
- Developed a full blown application to monitor the network traffic on the network nodes called "Monitor Pack" using the underlying OSN application framework.
- Entire package including the applications, framework libraries ,OS sits in a single independent blade in one of the racks of the network node with a user friendly interface to install and configure blade and mange the network node(switch/router).
